Credit cards can make travel more convenient, provide useful protections, and eliminate the need to carry large amounts of money. Cash, however, is still essential in many destinations and can be especially useful for small purchases, tips, markets, transportation, and places that don't accept cards.
The best strategy is to combine the two and have a backup plan in case something goes wrong.
